Founding HAE-Chicago Member Wins MacArthur Genius Award
COMING SOON: HAE-Chicago will be hosting a breakfast event with Juan on Jan 14, 2016
A founding member of HAE-Chicago, Juan Salgado( HBSEE '13) is among the newest group of twenty four to receive the MacArthur "Genius" Award.
Every year, The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation selects a group of rising stars. As Cecilia A Conrad, vice president of the MacArthur Foundation and leader of the Fellows Program points out, these are people who "have demonstrated a high degree of creativity in their field... with the potential for more."
The MacArthur Committee cited Juan, a leader in Chicago's West Side Latino community, as someone who... "has developed a curriculum at the Instituto del Progreso Latino that incorporates basic education, vocational training and technical skills development, speeding participants towards higher-paying jobs."
Through his leadership, his organization serves over 11,500+ program participants and families annually. Entrepreneurial by nature, Juan's vision -- of creating a path to a brighter future for low income workers through education, relevant job skill development and training -- not only builds a talented workforce, it helps stimulate the Chicago economy and builds a better future for these workers and their families.
Congratulations Juan!
